Ethereum Postpones Glamsterdam Testnet Deployment Over Smart Contract Security Concerns

Developers have delayed the Glamsterdam hard fork on the Hoodi testnet following research by ChainSecurity highlighting vulnerabilities in proposed gas rules.

Ethereum core developers have postponed the Glamsterdam hard fork deployment on the Hoodi testnet, which had originally been scheduled for October 26. The delay allows developers to further examine how certain upgrade proposals interact with existing smart contracts.

The decision follows a warning from blockchain security firm ChainSecurity regarding two proposals in the upgrade, EIP-8037 and EIP-8038. The firm identified 13 real-world smart contracts that could be vulnerable to insufficient gas griefing, where attackers intentionally send inadequate gas to cause contract operations to fail while recording permanent state changes, such as disabling user retry options.

Under the proposed gas rules, gas could be returned to contracts after an operation fails, altering execution flows and bypassing existing safeguards. The testnet postponement introduces uncertainty into the broader roadmap, as developers had previously targeted early December for the Glamsterdam mainnet rollout pending successful testing on Hoodi.

These two are not the same thing, and one does not produce the other. The left is how this single article reads, from its tone alone. The right is the site’s own call on the asset, from indicators and analysis. Press tone feeds no score and no signal: on the only corpus this site has measured, daily tone tracked the move that had already happened and showed no measurable link with what followed.
